After over a decade of working from home I have learned one thing for sure: certain things I just NEED.
Sure, I want lots of things but in order to be productive, manage different accounts, and not focus more on my chores than my work I have a little stash of things that power me through the workday and make things just a little bit easier to manage as a working mom at home sometimes steeped in chaos, both personal and professional.
So let’s dive right into the five things I cannot live without while working from home full time.
A wireless keyboard like this one from Anthropologie
And bonus points for a keyboard that is super chic AND has that certain ASMR-pleasing clickability. For years I was firmly in the camp of using my laptop only and not getting a wireless keyboard or mouse but, boy, times have changed as I get older. A wireless set up has allowed me to find a way to keep my neck and wrists from straining and my back doesn’t look so much like a cashew because I’m not hunched over a tiny ‘top. Want extra comfy points? Invest in a soft-as-clouds wrist rest.
A small-but-mighty desk like this one.
I don’t have the space in my house for a full office so I’ve had to be pretty creative over the last 10+ years when it comes to finding privacy for calls or somewhere to hunker down and get things done. Clearing out a small corner of my basement and putting up a little corner desk area has been a game changer. I paired my desk with a desk converter to create a standing/walking capability, too. I still love a work sesh at the kitchen table but having a place to “escape” the home part of work-from-home has helped me when I need to get in the zone and get a ton done. Plus, who doesn’t like a space to put cute little desk accessories?
Manifestation candles from Spiritual and Paid
These little wonder candles help level up my goals, assist in my meditation practice, AND smell delicious. I love the 7 Figure Dreams candles to manifest those paid invoices but they also help my whole workspace smell fresh and clean. Infused with herbs and crystals, these are a product I love to gift to others (and myself!).
Comfy TOMS
I’m officially a little old lady because I am all about having a pair of house shoes. What is it about wearing shoes that makes me feel more productive? I feel ready for the day when I’m fully dressed but I don’t love the idea of tracking dirt and whatnot from my usual footwear around my house. TOMS are my favorites because they are cute and comfy and support my tootsies while I’m walk-writing. Even better? They always have such cute holiday and seasonal styles!
A walking pad (I love the Merach T26!)
One of my favorite trends over the last few years? Cozy cardio. While I do love a good stroll while watching a rom-com with candles lit, I find that I also feel and think better when I move while I work. Adding a walking pad to my workspace set up has allowed me to hit my daily step goals without taking up a ton of space. My walking pad is easy to maneuver so I can roll it into the next room for cozy cardio or place it in my workspace for a working walk every day.
Whether you are a work-from-home newbie or a seasoned vet, your space needs to feel comfy and productive for YOU!
