Gifts for Grandparents
My favorite things to buy or make for grandparents and other special grown ups in my kids’ lives…

When it comes to grandparents and other special grown ups, my kids are lucky to have some of the best. So during the holidays, it can be easy to put pressure on myself to find the exact perfect present that will convey thank you! We love you! Without your help we’d go insane! Over the years I have found some great gifts that have managed to say, “hey, thanks for all you do for us” but also are sweet and even useful throughout the year. Here are a few of my top gifts for grandparents.
A Digital Frame
A digital frame is a fun way to keep grandparents in the loop on what kiddos are up to whether they live 2 minutes or 2,000 miles away without having to put every photo of your kid(s) on social media. I bought this Skylight Frame for my parents and my grandparents within the last few years and it is ALWAYS a favorite gift. I love that the frame is connected to an easy-to-use app so every few days I can select both frames and upload 1,928,290 photos for my grandparents and my parents to see. There’s also an email address so other family members can send photos to the frame, too.
Handprint (or Footprint) Everything
All things handprints, all the time. If your kiddos are still young, handprint crafts are a HUGE crowd pleaser. I have been making Mistletoe crafts (above) with my boys since my oldest was born and now I continue that tradition with their giant 8 and 10 year old feet because it is funny and I will ask them to do it until I’m an old lady. This is a gift for me but I also make them for all sets of grandparents.
There is no shortage of cute, handprint crafts for the holidays but I love the aforementioned mistletoes and these cute salt dough handprint ornaments. You get extra credit if you pair a handmade gift with a craft kit that grands n’ kids can do together, too. I love this stained glass craft kit from National Geographic.
Meaningful Jewelry
I love a thoughtful piece of jewelry at any price point, be it birthstones or birth flowers or fingerprints. I am a HUGE Made by Mary fan and have found their necklaces are unique and chic, perfect for a grandma or special grown up. Seriously, my MBM flower bar necklace gets mucho compliments whenever I wear it. When it comes to gifting, I think the Family Florals Oval Necklace is perfectly sentimental and gorgeous enough to wear every day.
Grandparents Day Out
I love a gift that is really an experience so setting up a “grandparents day out” is super fun! Think pairing a restaurant gift card with tickets to an event or springing for concert tickets. I sent my dad to the Bruno Mars 24K Magic World Tour as a Christmas gift a few years ago and I *think* I’ve been his favorite daughter ever since (spoiler: I’m his only daughter). You can make a day out extra special by making it a family affair! Spring for a restaurant outing and a kid-friendly museum or play nearby (check out your local theatre guilds and playhouses - you might find a gem!).
Super Silly
I live for a gift basket and my life’s motto is, “when in doubt, be a silly goose” so when all else fails you can create a Sunshine Basket full of things guaranteed to make grandparents smile. Some choice ideas include a fun game, a photo of the kids making fun faces framed in a hand decorated frame (the more dried macaroni noodles, the better), coffee mugs with a funny saying on them, and maybe even a cute gag gift from your kiddo (like this Silly Goose University hat that I kind of need for myself).
It can be tough to pick a gift for grands so what do you buy for the special grown ups in your kids’ lives??
Whether silly or sentimental, I love to shop and continue to peruse sales and find unique gifts so, if you’re interested, you can keep up with my stocking stuffer finds and more holiday shopping picks here and here.
